Changes to Proctoring

As you may have heard, the UNC Proctoring service is shutting down at the end of this semester. However, there are two resources at UNCG that are available for faculty interested in using proctoring in their courses:

1. Respondus Lockdown Browser/Monitor: Lockdown Browser is a Respondus product that, when taking a quiz on a computer, locks the student browser to prevent access to other tabs, applications, and keyboard shortcuts. Lockdown Browser can be used on its own or along with Respondus Monitor. Monitor uses a webcam to record video of the students as they take the test, therefore students are required to have a working webcam. In addition to recording the students taking the exam, Monitor can require students to take a picture of themselves, take a picture of their student ID, and do an environmental sweep with the webcam. Respondus is integrated with Canvas and there are no additional fees to students. Here is a Google Doc with more details about these Respondus products.
2. University Proctoring Lab (UPL): Located in Forney 112, the UPL was created to address the need for in-person proctoring on campus. The UPL provides professional test proctoring in a secure, quiet, and clean testing environment, and offers support from knowledgeable, courteous test proctoring staff. Faculty can schedule 60- and 90-minute time slots online up to 21 days in advance. The UPL is available Monday through Friday from 9am to 9pm and during select weekends. There is no cost to UNCG students using the UPL.  Here is the link to the UPL website for additional information for both faculty and students.
